A Roscoe Wilson 5th grader enjoys a stroke of victory at a talent competition miles away from home.
Fox 34's Lindsey Ashcraft visits with the young talent who has more than one string to her fiddle.
Ten year old Fiona Shea is not just fiddling around.
"It's fun to play the different pieces and as they get harder and harder it's really fun to figure out how they go and then it's fun to play in concerts," said Shea.
Shea proves she plays second fiddle to no one at "the talent among us" competition presented by the Jacksonville, Illinois, Symphony Orchestra.
"They said, 'and the grand prize goes to Fiona Shea' and for a second i just stood there. I didn't know what to do."
The daughter of two accomplished musicians, young Fiona began studying violin at age three.
"There's quite a lot of music making that goes on in this house throughout the day between Dad practicing, Mom practicing and Fiona practicing."
That practice makes perfect for young Shea who puts bow to string an hour and a half each day.
"There's really not more than a day without music going in the house and it's just i hear music constantly and so I'm just used to it," said Shea.
As the grand prize winner of the competition, Shea will return to Jacksonville to perform as a soloist with the symphony.
In addition to earning the grand prize, Shea won first place in the junior youth division of the competition.
